Studying on a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design course in 1997-1998 was the start of my journey as a maker of photographic images. My Final Major Project was a thinly veiled self-portrait featuring female models (four of my gracious, patient peers) that were directed to look as anguished, sad or sorrowful as possible in a DIY studio I made with black sugar paper and masking tape. The images were then manipulated and placed in a large square grid.
This zine features a selection of the original manipulated images, which were further worked over in sketchbook pages and is accompanied by four of the photographs, presented without additions for the first time.
